Numerical Investigation on Flow Characteristics in a Mildly Meandering Channel with a Series of Groynes

In single-bend channels or meandering channels, groynes are widely used as a river-training structure. Geometric factor is an important principle of groyne design. this paper, the numerical method based on Renormalization Group (RNG) k-ε turbulence model to study effects with different lengths and orientations mean flow pattern characteristics in mildly channel. The analysis shows that compared equal-length groynes, arranged descending order perform well improving velocity main channel, maximum longitudinal at channel center can be increased by 1.57 times average velocity. However, same time, they bring higher Normalized Turbulent Kinetic Energy (NTKE) Bed Shear Stress (NBSS) values. attracting help reduce scouring. ascending riverbank some downstream areas suitable for bank protection. It effectively decreases NTKE NBSS around fields inner scouring findings helpful management rivers.
